2020 NFL Predictions: New York Giants Under Pressure to Defeat Weakened 49ers in Week 3.
The New York Giants stand out as one of the odds underdogs worth playing in Week 3 given the long list of injury concerns blighting their next opponents, the San Francisco 49ers.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan has confirmed Nick Mullens will take the place of injured 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, with the former set to start an NFL game for the first time since 2018.
Star tight end is also a doubt and will be decided on closer to kick-off, but USA Today’s Art Stapleton reported the number of high-profile players missing on both sides of the football:
No Nick Bosa.— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) September 25, 2020
No Solomon Thomas.
No Richard Sherman.
No Jimmy Garappolo.
No Raheem Mostert.
Even without those guys, 49ers are certainly no pushover.
But no reason why Giants can't compete Sunday and win if they put a complete game together.
Despite San Francisco missing a string of stars, the Giants have been listed as +160 underdogs with Caesars, available to customers in New Jersey and other legal betting states.
The 49ers were dominant 31-13 winners when they faced the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium last time out, but the injuries suffered there threaten to come back and haunt a diminished lineup.

San Francisco 49ers v. New York Jets Prediction
There’s no question last season’s Super Bowl runners-up are a superior outfit to the Giants, who have averaged just four regular-season victories over the last three campaigns and are desperate to break back into the top two of the NFC East. Joe Judge’s side are 0-2 this season—as they have been every season since 2013—but it’s been at this point the pickup tends to begin.
The Giants will have to rely largely on their defense, which stands out as by far their greatest asset considering star running back Saquon Barkley is out for the season and wide receiver Sterling Shepherd is unavailable.
Mullens will be a key target for the New York line after barely touching the football last season, although his stats from 2018—his most prominent NFL involvement to date—were decent.
Rumbling the San Francisco stand-in will be considered a must to unsettle the visitors without many of their major weapons, leaving the Giants with a fine chance of opening their 2020 account.
