The 2020 FedEx Cup play-off series gets underway on Thursday with the arrival of The Northern Trust, an east-coast staple boasting a high class of champion over the past decade.
A total of 125 qualifiers will take to TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts, but only 70 will meet the required mark to progress into the 2020 BMW Championship next weekend (Aug. 27-30). Justin Thomas is the pre-play-offs leader in the PGA Tour rankings prior to Boston, with three tournaments remaining to decide this year’s champion.
Bryson DeChambeau won The Northern Trust when it was held at Ridgewood Country Club in 2018, and his reinvented drive has helped him rise to become a +1000 leader to win a second crown, per Sugarhouse.
The wide fairways at this course promise to favor those titans off the tee as far as form on paper is concerned, though some rough terrain and slick Bentgrass greens will ensure it’s more complicated than that.
DeChambeau has gained more strokes off the tee (as well as in total) than any other player on the PGA Tour this season—an average of 1.175 per round of golf played. His recent bulk hasn’t proved as helpful in the approach, however, meaning his price won’t attract as many bettors in Boston.
Collin Morikawa, on the other hand, still holds plenty of value two weeks following his triumph at the PGA Championship, still available at +2200 for Sugarhouse customers in New Jersey and other legal betting states.
The California Kid—who doesn’t turn 24 until next February—recently joined an elite club with his victory at TPC Harding Park, and there are suggestions he could be ready to roll on the trophies in the near future.

2020 FedEx Cup Prediction
Morikawa doesn’t strike as the sort of player to get caught up in his newfound major-winner stardom, and the odds look generous considering he’s now fifth in the world and sits second in the FedEx Cup standings.
In short, there’s hardly an area in which Morikawa stands out as weak, though his strokes gained putting could do with improvement if he’s to hit the potential laid ahead of him. He’s 140th in the PGA rankings in that regard, but his work with the irons in recent weeks has shown where he’s able to make up in the approach.
Two wins in his last four tournaments—as well a runner-up finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge in June—hint at the head of steam Morikawa is building of late, and his price looks too tempting to pass up ahead of the first FedEx Cup series stage.
Prediction: Collin Morikawa to win
