NFL teams are largely creatures of habit, and 2020 isn’t likely to be any different in regards to organisations following a certain pattern of predicability when it comes to their selections.
The Cincinnati Bengals will have the first overall pick for the first time since 2003 this year, with Louisiana State quarterback Joe Burrow all but certain to head for Paul Brown Stadium.
This could be the third year in a row that a quarterback is picked at No. 1, but other positions hold far less priority in the first round.
Running backs, for example, tend to be drafted more so in the middle of the order these days, and the over/under on first-round picks in that position could be worth a punt. DraftKings offers odds of +215 (3.15) on there to be Under 0.5 (so zero) runnings backs to go in the first.
The Miami Dolphins have three first-round selections and look most likely to take a running back early on if any team does, with D’Andre Swift, Jonathan Taylor and J.K. Dobbins the leaders in the position.
Tight ends are even less fancied at the top of the order unless there’s a clear standout, and you can find odds of +600 (7.00) on there to be Over 0.5 (i.e. any) tight ends picked in round 1.
As aforementioned, quarterbacks tend to be among the popular picks, and you can bet +340 (4.40) that Over 4.5 shot-callers will go in the first round. Over 4.5 first-round linebacker picks has slightly shorter odds of +200 (3.00).
