Can host England finally win its first ODI World Cup?
- 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup
May 30-July 14, 2019 at England and Wales
The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup starts on Thursday, May 30, hosted by England and Wales.
This will be the 12th time the event has been contested. The tournament concludes with the 2019 Cricket World Cup Final on July 14 at Lord’s in London.
England is the 2-to-1 betting favorite at SugerHouse Sportsbook to win what would be its first-ever ODI World Cup championship.
But this is not a given result for the top-ranked team in the ICC’s ODI rankings despite the home advantage, as reflected by the odds.
Five-time ODI World Cup champion Australia and two-time champ India are the main challengers.
The Men in Blue, currently ranked second in the world, are the second choice in the betting, coming in at +334 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia, which is ranked fifth in the world thanks to its terrific bowlers, can be had at odds of +350 at William Hill Sportsbook.
World third-ranked South Africa (8-to-1 at PointsBet) and fourth-ranked New Zealand (9-to-1 at PointsBet) are the next two teams with reasonable chances to win the sport’s most prestigious event.
Can England be cool under the pressure of the favorite role? Most of their opponents in the same role at the World Cup and other major ODI’s have been cool under pressure in the sport’s biggest tests recently.
Some of the matches have not only hotly-contested odds, both social and governmental overtones, as well.
Many sportsbooks have game and tournament proposition betting offerings. The menu at DraftKings Sportsbook is particularly impressive with futures props on top wicket-takers, run scorers, seamers, strike rates, and spinners.
India captain Virat Kohli is the favorite to be the Player of the Tournament at +750 at DraftKings Sportsbook in a wide-open market that also features top choices from England – Joe Root (10-1), Jonny Bairstow (11-1), Jos Buttler (12-1) and Jason Roy (12-1).
Reasonable longshot West Indies, which has a pair of wins over England already this year, features top player contenders Chris Gayle (14-1) and Andre Russell (14-1). Australian star batsman David Warner is 15-to-1 for the top player honor.
Willow TV holds the broadcasting rights in the United States.
